The artist was inspired by wild animals and praised them for being as persevering and unyielding as the agave in the painting.
Chen created very detailed illustrations inspired by nature and wild animals with the finest tip of pen and ink. Darwin’s Fox is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM. This small fox has a disjunct distribution, with one population in the coastal mountains on mainland Chile and another 600 km south on Chiloé Island.
